Understand what the connected phone is reporting

Battery level and last-update time help parents interpret what they see on the Guardian Family Map. A map position is more useful when you can also see whether the connected child phone appears to have reported recently and whether its battery is running low.

A calmer way to stay informed

If the last update is older than expected, that does not automatically mean the child has stopped moving. The phone may have weak connectivity, restricted background activity, changed permissions or battery-saving behaviour that has interrupted normal reporting.

That device context is especially useful when an expected Home or School alert has not appeared. Parents can check when the phone last reported before deciding whether they need to contact the child directly.

Battery and update information can explain the state of the connected phone, but it cannot guarantee a current or exact location. Guardian supports family communication and is not an emergency service.

Guardian is not an emergency service. Location and notifications can be affected by GPS, connectivity, permissions, battery settings and operating-system restrictions.

Why does Guardian show battery level alongside location information?

Battery status helps parents judge whether a connected child phone may be close to losing power and therefore less able to keep reporting normally.

What does an older last-update time mean?

It means Guardian has not received a newer report from that device yet; connectivity, background restrictions, permissions or battery conditions may be involved.

Does a recent last-update time guarantee the map position is exact?

No. Update timing provides useful device context, but phone GPS can still be affected by signal, buildings and other normal location limitations.
